Submission: Ad Tech Enquiry

The Allens Hub has made a submission to the ACCC’s Ad Tech Inquiry. It focuses on two issues. First, it argues that the scope of the inquiry should be extended so as to capture the impact of other markets on ad tech markets. Second, it discusses the role and use of data in the ad tech industry. It argues that lack of transparency in how suppliers deal with consumer data requires broader reform of Australia’s privacy law and better education of consumers over the longer term. As a short-term measure, explicit informed consent should be required for processing and sharing any personal data in the ad tech industry.
