Will cryptocurrencies issued by central banks become a reality and how will Facebook’s Libra impact existing projects?

Allens Hub researcher Anton Didenko joins an international group of experts in Oxford to discuss the legal and regulatory implications of cryptoassets.

On 26 June 2019 the Commercial Law Centre at the University of Oxford held an international conference to discuss legal issues arising from the holding of assets using distributed ledger and blockchain technology. The conference was part of the Digital Assets Project, which aims to address three groups of legal issues: those relating to the property aspects of digital assets, those relating to the holding of digital assets through custodians and those related to regulation. Allens Hub researcher Anton Didenko presented research examining the opportunities and risks associated with new sovereign digital currencies (SDC) developed by central banks around the globe, and the impact of Facebook’s Libra cryptocurrency on the existing SDC initiatives.
