Submission: Independent Review of the Environment Protection and Biodiversity Conservation Act Act

The Allens Hub recently made a submission to the Independent Review of the Environmental Protection and Biodiversity Conservation Act (EPBC Act) focussing on the proposal to automate some decision-making under the Act. Our recommendations focussed on the need for accountability and transparency and outlined how the predictability, consistency and transparency of automated decisions could be furthered through careful design choices, evaluation and testing, human appeal processes, comprehensible explanations, and the use of open source software.
